Full Transformation

CDI Solutions was hired by United Community Bank (UCB) to transform a recently closed Capital One Bank into a new UCB branch located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This retrofit project aimed to incorporate a prototype design previously developed by CDI Solutions, utilizing a “kit-of-parts” approach to ensure that the branch's interior matched the prototype design in both form and function.

Planning and Execution

The project began with a thorough survey of the existing location to determine which elements of the current space could be integrated into the new UCB layout. This meticulous planning was essential to minimize construction impact and stay within budget constraints. The team identified key areas for reconfiguration to accommodate a new conference and training room, ensuring that these changes were seamlessly integrated into the existing structure. The ceiling, entrance vestibule, and private offices underwent minor modifications to better align with UCB's operational needs, providing a more functional and aesthetically pleasing environment. The prototype design was then meticulously planned within the space, ensuring the retrofit aligned perfectly with UCB's brand and new prototype specifications.

Enhancing Wayfinding and Accessibility

In addition to utilizing the existing building and infrastructure, CDI Solutions took charge of the complete exterior and interior wayfinding design. This task provided an opportunity to enhance the bank's brand recognition through cohesive and strategic signage. The exterior wayfinding was meticulously designed to efficiently direct both pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns, ensuring smooth navigation for all visitors. A retrofit of the existing monument sign to a UCB-branded sign helped reduce overall project costs while maintaining brand consistency. All wayfinding elements adhered strictly to ADA and Life Safety guidelines, featuring braille, high-contrast lettering, appropriate letter height, and strategic placement to ensure accessibility and safety for all customers.

Welcoming Atmosphere

The main lobby design incorporated materials and finishes from the original prototype, creating a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere. To boost brand visibility and create a striking visual impact, LED accent lighting was added to the existing exterior window bays, allowing UCB to stand out to customers at night. The open teller stations and accessible private offices were continued from the prototype design, enhancing the customer-focused experience and facilitating easy interaction between customers and bank staff. Teller stations equipped with Teller Cash Recyclers (TCR) were strategically placed within the existing lobby, enabling employees to perform traditional teller tasks while also providing a desk for discussing other financial services. This dual functionality ensured that each teller station was ADA accessible, promoting inclusivity and ease of use for all customers.

Functional Design

The workstations in the private offices followed the original prototype design, featuring under-counter lighting, wire management, and modesty panels to enhance functionality and create a streamlined workspace. Furniture selections for the conference room included all necessary furnishings, coordinated with integrated power sources from the floor, wall-mounted monitors, and task lighting. These elements combined to create a cohesive, functional, and aesthetically pleasing workspace that meets the needs of modern banking operations.

Attention to Detail

In addition to the main functional areas, the design also paid close attention to the ancillary spaces. The conference and training rooms were equipped with state-of-the-art technology and comfortable seating to facilitate both internal meetings and customer interactions. The furniture was chosen not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its durability and comfort, ensuring a pleasant experience for all users. The incorporation of integrated power sources and advanced audiovisual equipment ensured that these spaces were versatile and capable of supporting a variety of functions.

A Thoughtfully Designed Exterior

The exterior design was also carefully considered, with the goal of creating a welcoming and visually appealing entrance. The use of high-quality materials and thoughtful design elements ensured that the exterior of the building reflected the brand identity of United Community Bank. The addition of new signage and lighting elements further enhanced the building's curb appeal and made it easily identifiable to customers.

Innovative Design Approach

In conclusion, CDI Solutions' meticulous attention to detail, innovative design approach, and commitment to customer satisfaction resulted in a successful project that exceeded the client's expectations. The integration of United Community Bank’s prototype design with local vernacular elements, thoughtful wayfinding design, and functional, aesthetically pleasing spaces demonstrated CDI Solutions' dedication to excellence in interior design. This project stands as a testament to the firm's ability to deliver high-quality design solutions that enhance user experience and brand identity. The new UCB branch in Baton Rouge is not only a functional and efficient banking facility but also a welcoming and attractive space that reflects the bank's commitment to its customers and its community. The careful planning and execution of this project ensured that UCB’s new branch not only met but surpassed operational and aesthetic goals, setting a new standard for bank design in the region.

UCB has maintained a long working relationship with CDI spanning over 15 years.  Working with CDI Solutions has been a transformative experience for UCB.  Their design expertise and innovative approach have been instrumental in creating a prototype that perfectly aligns with our vision of where the branch banking experience is going.  Since the initial design, CDI has helped us bring that design forward using a kit of parts process to renovate many of our existing banking offices to create a branded, efficient, and welcoming branch experience.  Working with Matthew, Tracy, and their team has been working with friends and I would highly recommend CDI.
