CDI Solutions successfully completed the design of United Community Bank’s (UCB) new prototype, spanning 5,563 square feet, with a total project cost of $2.4 million and an additional $330,000 for furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E). The project included a bank branch and an adjacent PJ’s coffee shop, skillfully integrated within a shared lobby environment. This dual-purpose space exemplifies CDI Solutions' ability to create functional, aesthetically pleasing designs that prioritize user experience and reinforce brand identity.

The design process began with the strategic placement of a vestibule to separate UCB’s bank branch from PJ’s coffee shop, ensuring smooth transitions between the two while maintaining their distinct identities. CDI Solutions prioritized materials and finishes that balanced aesthetics, durability, and acoustic performance. The planning phase also involved creating comprehensive reflected ceiling plans (RCPs) for specialty lighting, in collaboration with the architect, electrical, and mechanical engineers. These efforts resulted in a cohesive and efficient design, supported by detailed interior construction documents that addressed specific functional needs, such as teller pod stations designed with input from bank representatives.

CDI Solutions designed comprehensive exterior and interior wayfinding solutions that extended UCB’s brand recognition throughout the site. Exterior wayfinding was carefully crafted to manage pedestrian and vehicular traffic, enhancing safety and convenience. All signage adhered to ADA and Life Safety guidelines, incorporating features such as braille, high-contrast lettering, and appropriate placement. This thoughtful approach ensured accessibility while maintaining a polished and professional aesthetic.

The bank’s main lobby was designed to be welcoming and community-focused, incorporating vernacular materials inspired by local traditions. Perimeter glazing flooded the central space with natural light, creating an open and airy atmosphere. The lobby’s open-plan design eliminated barriers between customers and staff, with accessible private offices and thoughtfully designed teller stations featuring Teller Cash Recyclers (TCRs). These stations balanced traditional teller tasks with space for personal consultations, ensuring inclusivity and ease of use for all customers.

Custom window films depicting maps of the bayou and surrounding neighborhoods added a local, personalized touch to the private offices and conference rooms. These offices featured functional enhancements, including under-counter lighting, wire management, and modesty panels, while conference rooms incorporated furniture with integrated power sources, wall-mounted monitors, and task lighting. The finishes throughout were inspired by local vernacular, creating a cohesive and authentic design.

One of the key challenges was creating a cohesive design that allowed UCB’s branch and PJ’s coffee shop to coexist harmoniously within the shared lobby. CDI Solutions met this challenge by designing wayfinding, materials, and finishes that complemented the overall building aesthetics. This integration ensured a seamless customer experience while highlighting the unique identity of each space.
