First Pioneers Federal Credit Union embarked on a major redesign of its branches and headquarters in Lafayette, Louisiana, with CDI Solutions. The credit union aimed to pay tribute to the Acadiana region’s rich French and Catholic heritage, influenced by Acadian descendants, while creating a modern space that appeals to both long-time members and newcomers. Lafayette has evolved from a quiet town to a dynamic hub for industries like oil, education, and arts, offering a vibrant backdrop of music, food, and culture that inspired the design.

Upon entering the branch lobby, visitors are welcomed by a radial space plan designed for easy accessibility and visibility of services. A central feature wall anchors the lobby with a seating area and check-writing divider, while Teller Cash Recyclers (TCRs) in the teller pods allow for personalized member interactions. Employee offices are located privately to support in-depth consultations. The rear of the building houses the headquarters, including administrative offices, training spaces, and a boardroom, blending customer-facing and operational functions seamlessly.

The design successfully merges traditional Acadian influences with modern elements. Bright and neutral tones blend with the credit union’s signature green, accented by traditional wood tones, natural stone, and crown molding for an elegant, timeless aesthetic. The slate-look tile in a herringbone pattern and inset carpet in the seating area create a warm, welcoming environment. The furniture selection combines classic designs with contemporary lines, and lighting choices—from traditional pendants to modern accent lighting—set the right ambiance throughout the space.

Custom millwork designed by CDI Solutions adds a distinct touch to the space. Features like the refreshment bar, check-writing stand, wood proscenium, and teller pods enhance the branch’s functionality while adding visual interest. Wayfinding and signage, both inside and out, were carefully crafted to complement the design. The exterior signs feature bronze finishes to evoke stability, while interior signs are simpler and modern, aligning with the updated aesthetic. This balance of tradition and modernity ensures that First Pioneers Federal Credit Union remains connected to its roots while serving its members in a contemporary and welcoming environment.
