CDI Solutions was privileged to design the interior of Fireman’s Federal Credit Union’s new branch in New Orleans, a project deeply inspired by the credit union’s storied history and commitment to its community. Established in 1934 by New Orleans firefighters, the credit union began as a cooperative aimed at pooling resources for better savings and loans. Today, it serves over 28,000 members and more than 400 business partners across Louisiana and Mississippi. As the second oldest federally chartered credit union in the nation, Fireman’s Federal embodies the spirit of “people helping people reach their goals,” a value CDI Solutions sought to reflect in every design element.

The branch, located in an end-cap space of a New Orleans shopping center, was designed to honor the firefighters who founded and continue to support the institution. The layout includes a lobby, member lounge, traditional teller line, private office, workroom, and public restroom. The material palette features dark, traditional finishes reminiscent of classic 1930s fire stations. Key design features include metal panels at the teller line, evoking the rugged finishes of vintage fire trucks, and a wooden ceiling feature inspired by the ladders of a 1934 fire engine. These elements create a space that blends historical reverence with modern functionality.

CDI Solutions extended the firefighter theme through carefully selected furnishings, wayfinding, and signage. Masculine shapes and durable materials dominate the furnishings, with performance fabrics in fire engine red, reflecting the boldness of firefighting. Wayfinding centers on a striking feature wall behind the teller station, painted in the credit union’s signature red. This wall prominently displays the logo featuring a firefighter, reinforcing the institution’s dedication to its members. Together, these elements create a cohesive and visually impactful space.

The branch is further enriched with artwork celebrating the firefighting community. High-resolution prints of fire gear and equipment adorn the walls, bringing the grit and heroism of the profession into the space. Photographs from local engine companies above the check-writing stand provide a personal touch, strengthening the connection between the credit union and the community it serves. CDI Solutions’ design for the Fireman’s Federal Credit Union branch is a tribute to the institution’s legacy, blending history, branding, and community into an inspiring and welcoming environment.
