A Unified Space

CDI Solutions partnered with Walker Town Hall to consolidate city-wide departments under one roof, enhancing efficiency and public service. The design embraced civic pride, blending the city’s historical roots with forward-looking, durable, and timeless architectural elements. The building not only accommodates various city departments but also provides ample meeting spaces for public use. Central to the design was integrating both the city court and city council chambers, ensuring easy access for the community.

Blending Durability and Civic Pride

One of the design challenges was creating a space that could handle the daily demands of a high-traffic government building while offering a welcoming atmosphere. To achieve this, CDI Solutions selected interior finishes and furnishings that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing. Terrazzo flooring and stone wall bases were chosen for their timeless appeal and durability, particularly in high-traffic areas, while carpet tiles and high-wear luxury vinyl tiles were used in offices and waiting areas. The public space also includes rotating displays of city artifacts, with custom millwork designed to showcase the city’s historical items. A permanent display of a historical bell, which was originally located on city property, is featured prominently in the entrance and visible from both the main court chambers and the lobby, connecting visitors to Walker's rich history.

Strategic Layout and Design

The first floor of the building houses the Clerk of Courts, permitting and utility departments, facilities, and City Court/Council Chambers, all strategically positioned to offer maximum public access. The second floor contains administrative offices such as finance, human resources, legal counsel, and the mayor’s office. Additionally, a third-floor shell was designed for future growth and leasing, reflecting the city’s forward-thinking approach. The council chambers and city court feature custom millwork, including desks and surrounding wall panels, maintaining a consistent design language throughout. Cost-effective yet timeless and durable furniture was selected through state contracts to meet both budgetary constraints and high-traffic demands.

Maximizing Light and Functionality

Incorporating daylight and views into the design was a priority, enhancing the overall ambiance while reducing energy consumption. Walker Town Hall's final design features a thoughtful balance of aesthetics and functionality, successfully meeting the needs of both public officials and city residents. CDI Solutions played an integral role in assisting with the new city seal design, typography, and branding, which were incorporated throughout the facility’s interior and exterior signage, ensuring cohesive and accessible wayfinding for all.

Hub for Community and Government

The Walker Town Hall project by CDI Solutions successfully consolidated multiple city departments into a single, efficient, and thoughtfully designed facility that honors the city's heritage while looking to the future. The design emphasizes functionality, durability, and timeless appeal, with carefully selected materials and finishes to withstand the demands of a high-traffic government building. Custom millwork, strategic wayfinding, and the incorporation of historical elements create a welcoming and civic-minded atmosphere. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, CDI Solutions delivered a project that meets the city's current needs and anticipates future growth, all while enhancing public service and fostering community pride.
