Our work on Caliente Grill, a 1,600 sq. ft. counter-service Mexican restaurant, exemplifies our dedication to innovative design and attention to detail. This vibrant space reflects both the cultural richness of Mexico and the vision of a seamless, enjoyable dining experience.

The central design concept for Caliente Grill was to create a layout that naturally guides patrons through the space, enhancing flow and optimizing the customer experience. This "funneling" concept comes to life through strategically placed millwork, ceiling elements, and lighting, ensuring effortless wayfinding. Upon entering, guests are immediately immersed in an atmosphere that celebrates the colors and spirit of Mexican culture. Drawing inspiration from the Mexican flag, the design features bold, geometric color blocks that pay homage to the iconic Mexican architect Luis Barragán and his masterful use of color and light.

A key feature of Caliente Grill is the custom millwork banquet seating, designed to accommodate various group sizes. This seating solution not only provides comfort but also contributes to the overall ambiance. One standout millwork element serves a dual purpose—on one side, it functions as a condiment bar, while on the other, it offers banquet seating. Its curved shape plays a crucial role in funneling patrons toward the service line, establishing a natural flow and maximizing the layout for high traffic.

Above the curved millwork, a ceiling cloud complements the design below, adding both visual appeal and functional wayfinding. Lighting was meticulously planned to highlight focal points, including the artwork ledge and high-top tables, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. This careful use of light guides patrons through the restaurant with ease, enhancing both visual interest and spatial clarity.

Branding is seamlessly integrated into Caliente Grill’s design through custom artwork produced in-house. Due to time and budget constraints, CDI Solutions created five custom art pieces, printed and stretched on canvas, which add vibrant, branded elements throughout the space. This scalable approach ensures that the design can be consistently replicated in future franchise locations, providing recognizability across potential new venues.

Playful wayfinding signage crafted from sheet copper and installed with stainless steel standoffs adds a decorative yet functional touch, helping patrons navigate the restaurant while maintaining the design’s whimsical spirit. Advanced 3D modeling was employed during the design phase, allowing clients to visualize design choices and make informed adjustments. The result is a vibrant, welcoming space that closely mirrors the original vision, reflecting Mexico’s rich cultural heritage while delivering an efficient, memorable dining experience for guests.
