Contemporary Elegance
The Alder Hotel, a 57,500-square-foot boutique property in Uptown New Orleans, is a masterful blend of mid-century modern design with contemporary touches. Its design encompasses key areas such as the entrance lobby, business center, guest lounge, dining spaces, conference room, public restrooms, and back-of-house facilities, each crafted to balance functionality with historical elegance. The hotel provides guests with an inviting, aesthetically rich environment that resonates with New Orleans’ unique cultural and architectural legacy.
Prime Location and Accessbility
Strategically located adjacent to the Ochsner Baptist Medical campus, the Alder Hotel is ideally suited for medical visitors, including those requiring extended stays. It also serves as a convenient destination for guests visiting nearby Tulane, Xavier, and Loyola universities. Located near the lively Freret Street corridor, guests have easy access to a variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, enhancing the hotel’s appeal to both short-term and long-term visitors.
Thoughtful Lobby Design
The hotel’s entrance lobby sets the tone with mid-century-inspired furniture, finishes, and accessories that create a nostalgic yet contemporary atmosphere. Custom wall coverings featuring 1950s images from the New Orleans Historic Collection connect the space to local culture, offering guests an immersive glimpse into the area’s history. These design choices make the lobby both visually striking and welcoming, providing an authentic introduction to the hotel’s unique aesthetic.
Dining and Lounge Spaces
The open-plan guest lounge and dining area create a cohesive, expansive space where guests can relax and socialize. A community table positioned between the breakfast area and lounge fosters communal dining, encouraging social interaction. Coordinating ceiling elements and carpet insets along a shared axis further unify the area, establishing an intimate yet spacious setting that enhances the guest experience.
Attention to Detail
Throughout the hotel, historical sensitivity is apparent in the design of areas like the registration space, where period-inspired wall coverings and terrazzo flooring pay homage to the building's original elements. Black-and-white archival photographs from the Historic New Orleans Collection are displayed throughout, creating a cohesive theme that ties the hotel’s modern updates to its mid-century roots. This thoughtful approach to design ensures that the hotel’s renovations honor its historical context while providing contemporary comforts.
Combining Comfort and Elegance
In the guest rooms, custom-designed furniture and mid-century-inspired details evoke a sense of nostalgia while offering modern comfort. LVT flooring flows seamlessly from the entrance into the room, and carpet tiles are inlaid to create a “rug” effect, adding both visual interest and practicality. Recognizing the proximity to the medical campus, the rooms are equipped with kitchenettes and ample storage, providing the amenities needed for extended stays. This thoughtful inclusion, along with locally-inspired custom artwork, enhances both functionality and the overall guest experience, making the Alder Hotel a welcoming haven for all who visit.
